MIXED BERRY 4TH OF JULY FRUIT SALAD WITH CREME FRAICHE OR ICE CREAM

MIXED BERRY 4TH OF JULY FRUIT SALAD WITH CREME FRAICHE OR ICE CREAM

Are you wondering what to make for dessert for 4th of July celebration?  Some of us don't have the time to fuss, so here is a great suggestion.  Make individual little bowls (or a large bowl - either way!) of fruit salad made out of berries such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.  For the "white" part, top with my CREME FRAICHE (tastes awesome and holds up better than whipped cream) recipe or simply use sweetened whipped cream.  I like to first toss the fruit in a little lemon juice mixed with a titch of sweetener, however, it is not necessary.  This is also fantastic served with ice cream.  Try my homemade Ice Cream Custard.

Carbs will vary depending on how much fruit you serve up in each bowl and which topping option you choose.

You could call this fruit salad American salad to be super cute and patriotic.  This type of fruit salad is perfect for summer and summer barbecues.  A delicious and refreshing fruit salad is always welcome.  I love fruit and this sort of salad I prefer to many desserts.

If you have not yet tried my Creme Fraiche recipe, I hope you will.  I have been making it for years.  It is wonderful for topping cheesecakes, pies, fruit salads, crepes, and you name it...wherever you would use whipped cream, Creme Fraiche will be even more suitable.  You can sweeten it to your liking as well.  You can add a bit of vanilla to flavor it.

Fruit salad is easy to prepare, pretty to serve and always well received, even if it doesn't take much time and effort.

Fruit salad is easy to prepare, pretty to serve and always well received, even if it doesn't take much time and effort. Simple ingredients often produce the best results.  If you don't like blackberries, you can skip them and just use blueberries in this dessert.  You could use either strawberries or raspberries.  It is true we cannot use bananas or apples but at least we don't have the worry of those fruits turning brown and this fruit salad can be made ahead of time and then portioned off into separate bowls with a dollop of whipped cream or even whipped cream cheese mixture, if desired (cream cheese, sour cream, whipping cream and sweetener) to mimic no-bake cheesecake and fruit.  You could add a bit of lemon zest for garnish.  I wouldn't fold it in to the fruit salad, but a little lemon zest for garnish would be pretty.  If you prefer you could layer your fruit salad with Creme Fraiche in a shot glass or a pretty wine glass instead.  The texture of Creme Fraiche is definitely nicer than whipped cream.  Again, I hope you will try that simple recipe.  If you do, you will be sold, as it tastes better and holds up better than whipped cream.

With this dessert, sweetened Greek yogurt could also work well. This is a lovely Fourth of July idea with hardly any thought or work involved.  If you can find sugar-free marshmallows, that would be another idea for a topping.  Low-Carb pound cake is yet another idea.
